Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» Earns Five Year Accreditation Reaffirmation
A New Day at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»: From ‘Show Cause’ to Full Reaffirmation of Accreditation
AUGUSTA, GA — In a historic victory that signals a triumphant new era for one of the nation’s most storied Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is proud to announce that it has been granted full reaffirmation of accreditation by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) for a period of five years.
This monumental decision by the TRACS Commission officially removes Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» from “Show Cause” status — the most serious sanction an accrediting body can impose short of total withdrawal. Being on “Show Cause” required the College to “show cause” as to why its accreditation should not be removed. Today, the verdict is clear: Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» has not only met the standard but has surpassed it.
The Journey Through the Fire
The road to this moment has been paved with resilience. In years past, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» faced significant hurdles, navigating complex financial and administrative challenges that threatened its very foundation. For a season, the institution’s future was questioned by many. However, the “Lions” of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» never lost their roar.
The turning point arrived with a shift in vision and the appointment of Dr. Lester A. McCorn as the 18th President. Under his transformational leadership, the College underwent a rigorous period of internal restructuring, financial stabilization, and a renewed commitment to its mission of “Preparation for Transformation.”
Leadership Rooted in Faith
The removal of the “Show Cause” sanction is a validation of the strategic roadmap laid out by Dr. McCorn and his administration. His tenure has been defined by an unwavering belief that the College’s best days were not in its past, but in its future.
Reflecting on this milestone, President Dr. Lester A. McCorn shared a message of gratitude and spiritual conviction:
“This achievement is a testament to the fact that we serve a God who is faithful to His promises. We have walked through the valley, but we never walked alone. As the Scripture reminds us in 2 Timothy 4:7, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.’
Today, we celebrate more than a status change; we celebrate a spiritual victory. God is truly good. We had the faith to finish this fight, and now we have the foundation to build a future that will impact generations of scholars. The ‘Paine Heights’ are within our reach.”
Attorney Michael L. Thurmond, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said, “This achievement speaks volumes about the quality of the education we offer at Paine. On behalf of the Board, I extend my sincere appreciation to our transformation leader, Dr. Lester McCorn, and to our dedicated faculty, staff and students who believe in the mission to transform Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». This historic milestone affirms where we stand today but also strengthens our confidence in the path ahead.â€
What This Means for Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»
Full reaffirmation for five years is an OUTSTANDING endorsement from TRACS, ensuring that:
- Federal Funding:Â The College maintains full access to federal financial aid (Title IV) for its students.
- Academic Excellence: Degrees from Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» continue to be recognized and respected by graduate schools and employers worldwide.
- Institutional Growth:Â With the accreditation cloud lifted, the College is poised to accelerate its capital campaigns, campus renovations, and enrollment growth.
This announcement is a “win” for the City of Augusta, the Board of Trustees, alumni, staff, and faculty who stood by the institution, and the students who chose to believe in the Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» legacy. The “Show Cause” chapter is officially closed. The chapter of excellence is now being written.
